Taylor Swift finally owns all her music, but it’s in no way thanks to Scooter Braun.
Friday marked a happy turning point in the pop star’s career when she revealed she was finally able to purchase her first six records from Shamrock Capital. For the first time, she was offered a deal with “no strings attached” and it resulted in her “greatest dream come true.” Every Swiftie knows how important this is to her — and what a difficult journey it has been to get to a moment like this. And there’s one man responsible for making this such a struggle: Scooter.

Justin Bieber‘s ex-manager purchased Tay’s old label, which owned the rights to her tunes, back in 2019. She’d been trying to work out a deal to secure her masters — but Scooter stole that opportunity from her, and she found out about his purchase with the rest of the world. She slammed him for his years worth of “incessant, manipulative bullying.”
And Scooter didn’t even wait for the investment to mature! The next year, he sold the music catalog to Shamrock — despite Taylor trying once again to work out a deal to regain ownership. Unfortunately he wanted something she wasn’t willing to give up — her voice. A deal with Scooter would have required her to sign an NDA that stipulated she could only say nice things about the manager, something she obviously didn’t want to do. When she learned the investment firm had purchased the music, she declined a partnership with them, too — because the terms meant Scooter was still going to profit off the music “for many years.”
Simply put, there’s a sea of bad blood between Taylor and Scooter, which is why we were definitely a bit shocked when reports surfaced last week that he was actively encouraging Shamrock to sell the recordings back to the artist! Yeah, after all those years of screwing her over, he was suddenly on her side. Huh?
But now that the deal was legit, should he get any credit for this? Did he really help make this happen? Well, not so fast…
An insider with knowledge of the contract negotiations told People on Friday that Scooter deserves no credit for this — as if he was really going to get any from Team Swift… The source explained that the entrepreneur was not involved in the business talks at all. They said:
“Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who ‘encouraged’ this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor’s Nashville-based management team only. Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.”
That sounds about right! Seems like maybe he caught wind of what was happening and realized he could do a little spin to make himself look like a hero. Right? Pfft.
BTW, Tay made it VERY clear who she feels is responsible for this sale — and it sure as heck didn’t include that spider boy! She reflected:
“All I’ve ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy. I will be forever grateful to everyone at Shamrock Capital for being the first people to ever offer this to me. The way they’ve handled every interaction we’ve had has been honest, fair, and respectful. This was a business deal to them, but I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams. I am endlessly thankful. My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead.”
Hah! It’s a great day for Taylor! (As long as she doesn’t go through with the tattoo threat…)
As for Scooter, karma is definitely still coming for him…
