Lorde returned with a new album last week and… disappointed some fans all over again.
A few weeks back when the Royals singer mused about loving Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee‘s sex tape, lots of people on the internet were icked out. After all, this was revenge porn — leaked by an angry third party. But Lorde admitted:
“I found it to be so beautiful. And maybe it’s f**ked up that I watched it, but I saw two people that were so in love with each other, and there was this purity. They were jumping off this big boat … They were like children.”
Her fans hoped saying this was just a momentary lapse in judgment… Not so much. She actually brought it up because she’d talked about it in a song! In Current Affairs, she sings:
“All alone in my room / Watching the tape of their honeymoon / On the boat, it was pure and true / Then the film came out”
Man, if she’d never spoken about it maybe no one would even know what this was about… But here she is immortalizing the comments in song. Oof.

The question many had is… what does Pam herself think about this? She didn’t even appreciate the TV show about it, Pam & Tommy — and that was intended to be respectful of her.
Obviously she’s not happy about it, but her reaction is about as deep as one can cut a pop star. An insider told DailyMail.com on Tuesday:
“She doesn’t know Lorde, and is not going to focus on Lorde’s thoughts and her lyrics, it is nothing that Pam wants to be a part of. She’s not going to endorse it.”
And then the killing blow:
“She’s not mad at Lorde, because she doesn’t know who she is…”
Oof. RIP Lorde.
The source finished:
“…but she would rather not have this out there. It is just a headache to deal with, when she just wants to live her life. It is painful that she always has to relive that moment in her life.”
Not only are they making it clear it causes Pam pain — they’re also pointing out as explicitly as possible that Lorde will never be Pamela Anderson famous. Ouch.
