It’s what every parent of a toddler is afraid of. You turn your back for a moment, and some monster hurts your tiny, defenseless child.
In security camera footage from an airport in Moscow, the entire horrific scene plays out. A pregnant woman leaves her 18-month-old son alone for just a moment, holding his tiny little suitcase. She just needs to collect the stroller to put him in.
As soon as she’s gone a large bald man standing nearby looks around to see if anyone is watching. Then he suddenly snatches the child up and swings him by the leg into the ground! The child was slammed into the hard airport floor headfirst — leaving him with skull fractures and spinal injuries.

The attacker was quickly “stopped by eyewitnesses,” according to the Russian Investigative Committee. The man was arrested, but it was too late for the boy, who is lying in a coma. Russian sources identified the suspect as 31-year-old Vladimir Vitkov, who had just arrived from Belarus. A total stranger to the family. There is still no motive known for the attack — but Vitkov is said to have been on drugs, according to The US Sun. He tested positive for cannabis, but other drugs were found in his possession. He is now under investigation for attempted murder.
Moscow Region Children’s Ombudswoman Ksenia Mishonova released an emotional statement on the incident:
“A drug-addled monster grabbed a toddler in the arrivals hall and threw him on the floor with all his might… All this is incredibly difficult to bear. I hope the detained monster will receive the full severity of the law. I wish the child a speedy recovery. May the parents have the strength to survive this.”
The woman and her child had just arrived from Israel. The family reportedly fled due to the US bombing Iran and the likely retaliatory strikes. Russian police are examining whether there could be a racial component to the attack considering their country of origin. But at this point it seems unlikely…
Vitkov could not explain his actions to police at all, saying only when asked if he’d been in trouble with the law before that he had “made mistakes like that” in the past. A female friend was “in shock” that he’d done such an awful thing. Perhaps most shocking? He apparently has a daughter the same age as the boy he hurt. Unfathomable.
