Pierce Brosnan has hinted at the idea of playing a new character in the forthcoming James Bond movies.
The Irish actor played agent 007 in four movies between 1995 to 2002, before Daniel Craig took over from 2006’s Casino Royale to 2021’s No Time To Die. Speculation is rive about the casting and direction for the next film, and Brosnan revealed to GQ that he would be open to a role in the new iteration.
“Of course, people ask about [playing] Bond – ‘would you?’ and whatever – but that’s another man’s job” he said. “But the possibilities of working within that film, entertaining… So it’s going to be exciting to see what happens. I think everything changes, everything falls apart, so you just sit back and enjoy it all.”
When asked directly if he would be interested in playing a character such as a retired agent, he replied: “Sometimes you entertain it and sometimes you just move on.”
The new film will be first under the creative direction of franchise owners Amazon, and will have Dune director Denis Villeneuve directing a script written by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight.
No news has arrived regarding the casting of Bond, although in October it was reported that Tom Holland, who was rumoured to be a contender for the role, has a clause in his Marvel contract that prevents him from playing other famous characters.
A report from Deadline in September stated that the producers of the film were looking for a younger “fresh face” to play the agent, and were looking for a British actor in his late 20s or early 30s (the last three Bond actors have ranger between 38 and 42 when starting in the role).
