President Vladimir Putin on Thursday made his first public comments on a Washington-proposed 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, saying he supported the “idea” of a truce, but that the plan in its present form needed “more detailed work”. He also said the “root causes” of the conflict needed to be removed, but without mentioning what those might be.
