Ricky Hatton’s son responds to Oasis Wembley tribute: “I couldn’t ask for any more”

Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell has responded to Oasis‘ Wembley tribute, saying he “couldn’t ask for any more”.

The boxing legend was found dead at the age of 46 in his home in Greater Manchester on September 14. No cause of death has been announced, and police are not treating it as a suspicious case.

Hatton was a longtime friend of Noel and Liam Gallagher, with the brothers famously walking him to the ring and carrying his championship belts in Las Vegas for his bout against Paulie Malignaggi in 2008.

He was also recently in attendance at one of Oasis’ giant homecoming shows at Heaton Park this summer, and Noel revealed he had been texting with Hatton shortly before his death. Oasis would go on to dedicate ‘Live Forever’ to the boxer on their September 27 and 28 shows – their two extra dates at the stadium.

Now, Ricky’s son Campbell has spoken out about his father’s death, telling ITV News that the Hattons have been left “absolutely heartbroken” by the news (as per Metro).

He also told ITV News that “we’re also die-hard Oasis fans, all of us”. In response to Oasis’ ‘Live Forever’ tribute, he added: “I couldn’t ask for any more and the support we’ve had from everyone has been unbelievable.”

Upon the news of Hatton’s death, Liam Gallagher paid tribute to the boxer on social media that he was “absolutely devastated”. “It was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER”, he added.

Noel then spoke out about the boxer’s death shortly after Liam’s tribute, telling TalkSport that he was on “standard Ricky form” at Oasis’ Heaton Park gigs. “We don’t know what has happened, but he did struggle with mental health, and it just shows you that you never really know,” Noel said.

“It is such a shame because he is a great Mancunian, and a lovely, lovely lad; he was one of us.”

He went on to reminisce about Hatton’s journey with Oasis on their South America tour, adding: “He came along with all his mates for the week, and it was like he was part of the band for a week.”

“It is a real shame for his family and his kids, and his grandkids,” Noel went on to say. “I was really gobsmacked by it. But he had an amazing career, and the night Liam and I carried his belts out in Vegas was one of the funniest nights ever. It was an honour for us to do that, but it was a funny night with him.”

“It’s sad we will never see him at the Etihad again.”

Hatton was an avid fan of Oasis, once saying (per the Daily Mail): “Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be a boxing world champion, support Man City and listen to Oasis. But I became a four-time world champion in two weight classes, ended up boxing at the Etihad Stadium in front of 55,000 people, and became mates with Noel and Liam Gallagher over the years.”

Elsewhere, Oasis have announced their ‘OASIS LIVE ’25 OPUS’ book containing their band reunion shoot and live tour photos.
