As Romanians vote Sunday in the first round of a presidential election rerun, experts voice concern over the potential win of far-right candidate George Simion. “The worst possibility is for Romania to become another Hungary,” said Sorin Ionita, President of Expert Forum, citing Hungary’s outlier role in the European Union. The far right would “import into Romania a lot of cultural wars”, leading to a “marginalisation” of Romanian politics, Ionita said.
