On Monday, Rwanda severed diplomatic relations with Belgium, expelling all Belgian diplomats within 48 hours. Kigali accused Brussels of siding against Rwanda in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) conflict and using “lies and manipulation” to foster hostility towards Rwanda. In retaliation, Belgium declared Rwandan diplomats persona non grata and terminated development aid, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
