Sarah Jessica Parker has hinted about Carrie’s return following the ending of And Just Like That… in August.
The show, which recently finished its third and final season, is a sequel series to the wildly successful Sex And The City, and, following its divisive series finale, Parker recently teased that she’s “not certain” if Carrie’s story is truly over.
“I think it’s out of respect for this really singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do, have you done it?” she said on CBS Mornings. “And sometimes it’s best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic, versus squeezing and exploiting people’s generosity and hospitality.”
Suggesting the door might not be fully closed post-finale, she said: “I’m not certain I understand [what] that decision means, because I could just be on hiatus.”
Episodes of the third season of the show were broadcast weekly on HBO Max from May onwards, until it was abruptly announced that the show would wrap up its third and final season with a two-part finale, giving way to speculation that HBO had axed the show.
At the time, showrunner Michael Patrick King released a statement explaining the decision, and said: “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”
Despite garnering high viewing figures, the show was also hit with negative critical and fan reception throughout its run, with many fans taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the finale.
When asked about viewers “hate-watching” the show, Parker was indifferent in an interview with The New York Times, saying: “I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,” she said.
“We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don’t really care. And the reason I don’t care is because it has been so enormously successful, and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful”.
The first season of And Just Like That scored a three-star review from NME upon its release, with Nick Levine writing: “After an awkward start to this reunion, And Just Like That… is beginning to feel like hanging out with an old friend again.”
