SEVENTEEN and Pledis Entertainment have issued an apology to fans after a firework mishap at their recent concert in Incheon.
During the K-pop group’s September 13 show in Incheon, a pyrotechnics mishap occured towards the end of the concert, leaving two fans injured. The incident saw stray fireworks shoot into the audience, rather than upwards.
Pledis has now issued a statement on behalf of the group: “During the final segment of the ‘SEVENTEEN WORLD TOUR [NEW_] IN INCHEON’ concert held on Saturday, September 13th, some of the special fireworks used unexpectedly fell toward the audience.”
“While a professional company established safe distances and direction and conducted repeated inspections prior to the concert, we have determined that this incident occurred due to a defective product. We deeply apologize to all audience members who were surprised or inconvenienced by this sudden situation.”
“The two audience members confirmed to have been injured at the concert site received immediate treatment at the temporary clinic within the concert hall and returned home. We will actively support the affected individuals in their subsequent treatment procedures to ensure a speedy recovery. We will send a separate message to audience members on the day of the concert to determine whether there were any additional damages and to determine the specific circumstances.”
“Furthermore, to prevent a similar situation from recurring, the defective products will be excluded from the concert scheduled for Sunday, September 14th. After a more thorough safety inspection, the special effects will be performed.”
“We sincerely apologize once again for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our audiences and do our best to create an even safer performance environment.”
In other news, member Woozi has enlisted in military service as of today (September 15), while Hoshi enlists tomorrow (September 16). Nine of the group’s 13 members will have to serve in the military – two of whom (Jeonghan and Wonwoo) have already enlisted earlier.
The group has also confirmed that individual members will remain active through solo material, and that the entire group will reconvene once everyone’s done with their two-year service.
As for the four members who won’t be serving – S.Coups is exempt due to an ACL injury while The8 and Jun are Chinese citizens and Joshua’s a US citizen – they plan to “stick together and make something great to showcase to the fans.”
In a three-star review of ‘Happy Burstday’, Gladys Yeo wrote for NME: “‘Happy Burstday’ might not be SEVENTEEN’s most cohesive release, but it succeeds at showcasing the group’s transformation over the last 10 years. The record’s focus on solo songs exposes each member’s strengths and weaknesses when they stand alone, but its group tracks are a self-assured testament to their chemistry and magnetism as a whole.”
