We’re still reeling from the news that 16 And Pregnant alum Whitney Purvis has been charged with involuntary manslaughter!
The shocking charge follows the overdose death of a Georgia man named John Mark Harris. As we’ve reported, Harris died back in February from a combination of the drugs Fentanyl and Xylazine, which has become known by the street name “tranq.” The MTV alum was, per cops, the one who gave the deadly chemical combo to her friend.

On Monday, John Mark’s grieving mother Lisa Harris spoke to TMZ about the ordeal. Notably, she said that her family never knew Whitney, and in fact they still don’t fully understand the nature of the reality TV alum’s connection to her son. (As an aside, that might help explain why Whitney didn’t go to John Mark’s funeral and was left merely to sign the online guestbook after the fact — a situation which would turn out to be the first of two missed funerals for her recently.)
Anyways, Lisa did not hold back in linking a cause-and-effect between Whitney allegedly providing the drugs and John Mark’s overdose death:
“She did this, and as a result, my son is dead.”
Lisa also had strong words to share about Whitney’s arrest. Now that the former MTV star is in the hands of law enforcement in Floyd County, Georgia, the grieving mother said she’s glad no other families must mourn lost loved ones because of Purvis’ alleged actions:
“Glad nobody else must go through this because of her actions.”
That’s not to say Lisa was exclusively antagonistic, though. She shared a poignant thought about the tragic turn Whitney’s own life has taken in recent times to get to this point in the first place:
“The whole thing is so heartbreaking. I feel sorry for her — not because she got arrested, but because her life got to a point of dealing drugs.”
Ugh.
Of course, we know Whitney has been going through quite a bit amid her own son Weston‘s recent death, too. And while that 16-year-old’s passing happened after this situation involving John Mark Harris, there may be some unsettling drug-related parallels.
This whole thing is just such a tragedy. Unfortunately, Lisa’s last comment captures it well.
