A mother of three was found dead in South Carolina — days after she sent a warning text about her boyfriend…
According to FITSNews, 25-year-old Megan Bodiford was reported missing after she sent an ominous text message to a friend about her 28-year-old boyfriend, Jarrett Haskell Davis, on April 25, 2024. It read:
“If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me. He has a gun.”
OMG. The State reported that the pal did not contact law enforcement until the next day, though. And the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office issued a missing person advisory for Megan on April 27. Per FITSNews, police immediately looked at Davis, who had a long criminal history, including pending charges of domestic violence in Barnwell County and an open warrant at the time of her disappearance. The boyfriend was also on parole.

A close friend of Megan told the outlet that she even reached out to Davis’ parole office a month prior, out of concern for the victim’s safety, and informed them that he was breaking the terms of his parole. However, they ignored the pal’s concerns. Megan’s cousin Stephanie Nickens also told WIS that the 25-year-old mom had “reached out for help” multiple times in the weeks before her murder, including to his parole officer and law enforcement. They still did nothing until it was too late…
Officers executed a search warrant at the couple’s home and found no evidence of Megan anywhere. Her 4-month-old baby was there unharmed, though. On April 27, police also carried out a search warrant for Davis, including his cell phone, multiple security cameras, a laptop, and a baby monitor. They then arrested him on the active domestic violence warrant.
After almost a week of searching, the worst happened. The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office found a dead body in a burned vehicle on April 30, about two miles from Megan’s last known location. An autopsy confirmed the remains belonged to the young woman. Awful.
By May 3, The State reported Davis was charged with her murder, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Arrest warrants claimed police believe Davis shot and killed Megan on April 25 before setting her car on fire while she was still inside it. A neighbor told WIS they reported hearing gunshots near the pair’s home just days before her death. Jeez.
WRDW reported Davis ended up pleading guilty on Monday after striking a plea deal with prosecutors. He was sentenced to 43 years in prison for murder, along with concurrent sentences of 15 years for third-degree arson, 10 years for desecration of destruction of human remains, and five years for possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Although the family got justice for Megan’s murder, that understandably does not erase the pain and anger. Stephanie expressed to WIS:
“If he would have been locked up the way that he was supposed to be the first time, maybe he wouldn’t have even gotten a chance to get this far with her. It’s gut-wrenching because he did not have to do all of that at all. I keep having this thought in my mind of how fearful she was in that moment.”
Oof. Our hearts break for Stephanie and the rest of Megan’s loved ones, especially her three young daughters.
