A huge mass of rock and ice from a glacier thundered down a Swiss mountainside, sending plumes of dust skyward and burying nearly all of Blatten, an Alpine village that authorities had evacuated earlier this month as a precaution. The devastating landslide is focusing renewed attention on the role of global warming in glacier collapses around the world.
