Syria’s new leader is set to arrive at the Élysée Palace later today. Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s trip to the French capital marks his first European visit since his Islamist forces ousted longtime Syrian ruler Bashar Al-Assad. France will reiterate its desire for a stable and inclusive Syria, but Paris will also be hoping to increase its influence, with French companies seeking contracts as the country begins to rebuild.
