Syria’s leader signs constitution, putting country under Islamist rule during 5-year transition

Syria’s interim leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, whose rebel group led the flash offensive that ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad in December, on Thursday signed a temporary constitution that stipulates that the country shall be governed under Islamist rule during a five-year transition period.
