Tanzania’s president, Tundu Lissu, has been in prison since April on charges of treason — an offence that could carry the death penalty. This week, his trial was postponed for the fourth time. The decision comes just three months ahead of the country’s presidential election. As the vote approaches, concerns over political repression are mounting, resonating beyond Tanzania’s borders.
