NME’s latest stars of The Cover, The Belair Lip Bombs, have created an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Australian indie four-piece are on this week’s (November 3) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every Monday, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read The Belair Lip Bombs’ profile here, written by Spencer Hughes and featuring photography by Ian Laidlaw.

The Belair Lip Bombs have curated an exclusive playlist, titled ‘Our Home Town’, highlighting some of the group’s favourite acts from Melbourne. The selection includes the likes of indie/electronic duo Armlock, five-piece rock band Floodlights, solo artist Blake Scott, and former The Cover stars Folk Bitch Trio, among others. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

The Belair Lip Bombs are the first Australian signing to Jack White’s Third Man Records, joining a roster that includes the likes of Hotline TNT, Die Spitz, and Island Of Love. The connection between band and label was made at SXSW 2024, following the Lip Bombs’ well-received 2023 debut album ‘Lush Life’. “They showed a genuine interest and love for our music from the start, and everyone who works there is incredibly passionate about their work and all the artists they sign,” vocalist/guitarist Maisie Everett tells NME.

As the band began work on their new album ‘Again’ – which was released last week (October 31) – the new arrangement did bring a certain amount of pressure. “I feel like there are songs that, if it was a couple years ago when we’d written it, we’d just probably have recorded it and put it out. Whereas this time I think we were like, ‘No, we can definitely do better than this, let’s keep chipping away at it,’” Everett affirms. “All the songs on ‘Lush Life’ were just what came out of us at that time. Whereas I feel like these songs, we maybe just have a stronger sense of identity as a band.”
