The Infamous One Tree Hill Scene Chad Michael Murray ‘Begged’ Not To Film!

Chad Michael Murray still HATES this One Tree Hill scene!

In a joint People interview with his former co-star James Lafferty out on Thursday, the actors reflected on the hit teen drama… and Chad revealed the infamous scene he “begged” not to film! Can you guess which one?? We’ll give you a hint, it’s a literally heart-crushing scene involving the show’s most popular villain. Yup, we’re talking about THAT crazy ER moment when Dan Scott was about to receive a heart transplant — but a dog eats the heart!

Recalling the scene in Season 6, episode 18, Chad expressed:

“I remember I begged and pleaded, begged and pleaded, ‘Please, I don’t need to be there. There is no need for Lucas Scott to be there. If you really want to do it, fine. Go ahead and write the scene, but it’s terrible.’”

Hah! The actor was starting to become more invested in his work at the time, which is why he had a lot of opinions on the direction of the story:

“I remember I started to care a lot more and I started to really get more involved. I was older and starting to try and take ownership of my things. Instead of 20 or 21, I was probably 25. I saw it, read the script and I knew exactly what they were doing.”

He felt they only wrote the scene so it would “make The Soup,” the Joel McHale-hosted show that poked fun at the most talked-about moments in pop culture every week. He felt it was a “promotional scene” — made just for the controversy.

Hilariously detailing the iconic scene, The Merry Gentlemen star described:

“All things are very possible, I guess, in the spectrum of things. So, if you were at home and you were making pot brownies — as one does — and you fell asleep and your dog happened to get into said pot brownies and ingest the entire tin, the first thing you’re going to do is take him to the ER.”

He continued:

“Next, we’re going to obviously get exhausted ’cause we ate some pot brownies and fell asleep. Meanwhile, my dog’s leash — it’s one of those 25-foot leashes. It goes and wraps around the whole ER.”

The organ is then carried in an unlocked box through the hospital lobby, but when the EMT carrying it trips, it spills onto the ground. The dog gobbles it up and takes it away. Addressing his part in the scene, he notes:

“Of course, I happen to be there. I witnessed this entire thing, as Dan Scott also witnessed. He knows that that’s probably his heart that just got eaten by the stoned dog who had the munchies.”

Hah! He described it so well! Chad finished:

“The scene went down in infamy.”

It sure did! It’s been over 20 years since the show first premiered, and we’re still talking about it! This thing goes viral every few months even among people who have no idea what it’s from — and probably, yeah, first saw it on The Soup! Ha! Relive the absolute chaos (below):

Defending the insane plot line, controversial creator Mark Schwahn told The Ringer in 2017:

“I just felt like, we don’t want Dan’s redemption to be too easy. We don’t want him to get a heart transplant and have it be too conventional. We want to take him to the edge of hope and then see what he’s made of. I just thought, ‘What’s an absurd way of this guy getting really close to getting this heart transplant and not getting it?’”

We mean, it was kinda nuts but also effective considering even Chad still thinks about it to this day! Hah!
