Katy Perry was once SO excited about the thought of walking down the aisle to say “I do” to Orlando Bloom. So, how come they never did in their 6-year engagement?! The reason is a real bummer…
A source told DailyMail.com on Thursday that the pop star and actor were all set to tie the knot back in 2020 after the Pirates of the Caribbean alum popped the question on Valentine’s Day in 2019 — but a global pandemic put a damper on their plans. The insider shared:
“They were looking forward to marrying fast after getting engaged and then COVID got in the way.”

The Firework artist was already pregnant with their now-4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove at that point, and having a bun in the oven was very much part of the dream wedding:
“[When] they got engaged, she was expecting, so everything came fast, and she was looking forward to heading down the aisle pregnant. It was actually something she wanted to happen. But with the unknown of COVID and travel restrictions, they had to postpone their nuptials.”
Not much they could’ve done at the time — not if they wanted to have a big ceremony! So, it’s understandable they postponed. Unfortunately, once life got back to our new normal, the whole thought of a wedding fell on the back burner. The source expressed:
“As time passed, she released new music, set up for a tour, left American Idol all while juggling being a new mom. There just wasn’t anytime to put a wedding together.”
Orlando was busy with his own acting work, too! And the Katy went to space — which was a big issue in the romance! But long before that April adventure, the A-listers hit a “rough patch” (reportedly at the start of the year), and with her tour scheduled out until December, tying the knot just was “not on their radar.” Soon, everyone in their inner circle started to realize they may never need to save the date for these two again! The confidant noted:
“The chances of breaking up were more likely than getting married.”
Oof. That’s so sad! And yet in some ways, maybe this was a blessing in disguise. At least in this scenario, they don’t have to go through the grueling and emotional process of a legal separation. Sure, they still have to deal with custody arrangements for their child, but this is still a lot easier (logistically) than a divorce!
Thoughts? Do U think the pandemic did them a favor by delaying their wedding plans? Tell us (below)!
