The Smashing Pumpkins launch new “OG Goth Smoothie”

The Smashing Pumpkins have launched the “OG Goth Smoothie” in time for Halloween, in collaboration with grocery chain Erewhon.

A social media post has teased that the custom smoothie will be a “nutty, decadent blend reminiscent of your favorite chocolate treats (no tricks!)” and will be available to buy for $19.79 (in reference to their classic 1995 track) from all Erewhon branches until November 8.

The band have said they will donate a portion of proceeds from the smoothie to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit that supports sportspeople, military veterans and others who are affected by the long-term effects of concussion and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Frontman Billy Corgan sits on the organisation’s national advisory board.

Ingredients in the smoothie include organic almond milk, coconut yogurt cacao, organic beet juice, maple syrup, peanut butter, sesame butter and cacao powder.

Next month, the band are releasing a 30th anniversary deluxe reissue of ‘Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness’, including a 6LP package that includes over 80 minutes of unreleased audio from the album’s accompanying 1996 tour, a hardbound book with new liner notes from Corgan, a custom tarot card set and seven frameable lithographs.

The album will also be available as a 4CD package, a 4CD SHM-CD package, and on digital formats. The Super Deluxe edition with an autographed lithograph retails for £398.00, and you can pre-order it here.

Other variants include the Super Deluxe box set (£274) and the Deluxe Edition 4CD set  (£40), and shipping will begin on November 21.

Speaking to NME back in February, Corgan touched on ‘Mellon Collie’ turning 30 and hinted at an upcoming special edition, saying they were “working with the parent label” to make it happen. “It’s weird because I can’t believe it’s been 30 years. I’m really excited, but at the same time, I’m like ‘What happened over these last 30 years?’”

He also said ’90s nostalgia giving way to grunge revivalism of late was “great”, and that “anything that involves the guitar and playing loud is always going to work”.

Meanwhile, Smashing Pumpkins’ 13th and latest album, ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’, arrived last year, and this year the band have shared 25th anniversary reissues of their 2000 albums ‘Machina/The Machines of God’ and ‘Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music’.
