Successive governments have said that recognition should only come as part of a peace process between Palestine and Israel. But what does a Palestinian state look like? In 1988, 148 of the 193 UN member states recognised Palestine after Yasser Arafat, the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), proclaimed its creation. Claudia Colliva explains.
