Prime Day’s back, and so are the smarter home upgrades. If you’ve been meaning to add a video doorbell to your setup but didn’t want to spend over $100 for one, Ecobee’s smart video doorbell might finally be worth considering. It’s currently available for $99.99, down from $159.99—its lowest price yet (according to price trackers), but only for Prime members. If you’re not already subscribed, there’s always the 30-day free trial to take advantage of. The doorbell ties in neatly with Ecobee’s other smart devices, plus Alexa and Apple HomeKit, though it doesn’t support Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video. It’s also wired, so setup will take a bit of effort.
The 1080p resolution may not sound impressive in a world where other brands are pushing 2K or 4K, but the 5MP HDR camera still produces solid image quality, according to this PCMag review. There’s a wide 175-degree vertical field of view that manages to capture visitors from head to toe, plus any packages that might get dropped off throughout the day. The daytime video looks vivid, and the black-and-white night vision offers decent contrast and clarity. The camera also features Smart Focus, which digitally zooms in to better track people as they approach. And thanks to dual-band wifi and noise-canceling microphones, two-way talk doesn’t come across as tinny or muddled. You’re also getting weather resistance with an IP65 rating, which helps the doorbell handle rain, dust, and general outdoor conditions.
What it doesn’t offer is local video storage. Recordings are stored in the cloud, which means you’ll need a subscription to access most features. The Standard plan costs $5 a month or $50 annually and includes 30 days of video history, package detection, and more detailed alerts for a single camera. The $10-a-month Complete plan expands those features to multiple cameras and adds 24/7 monitoring and insurance perks. Without a plan, you’re limited to live viewing and basic notifications.
