Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of French cities on Thursday, responding to trade unions’ calls for action against proposed deep spending cuts in next year’s budget. The unions aim to maintain pressure on President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, who are working urgently to resolve a deadlock in budget negotiations with political opponents before the parliamentary deadline.
