In a massive statement after four days of hostilities, US President Donald Trump has said India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following a “long night of talks” mediated by the United States.
Minutes after Trump’s post, the ceasefire was confirmed by both India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the foreign ministry in Pakistan. The ceasefire on land, sea and air, India said, was decided after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations called up his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon and has come into effect at 5 pm.
Taking to his social media website Truth Social on Saturday evening (around 8 am in Washington DC), Mr Trump tweeted, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
