Right-wing activist and close Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot dead Wednesday during an event at a college in Utah. The assassination comes amid a surge in political violence across the United States. Todd Belt, professor and director of political management at George Washington University, told FRANCE 24 that President Donald Trump has played a significant role in fuelling tensions. Citing an eight-fold increase in threats against US lawmakers, Belt said Trump “threw gasoline on the fire” when he returned to power.
