Turkey: Jailed Istanbul mayor appears in court as supporters gather outside his prison

Istanbul’s jailed opposition mayor appeared in court on Friday for one of several cases against him. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside Silivri prison, west of Istanbul, where the hearing was held. Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has been detained at Silivri since March 23. This case, one of six before his arrest last month, accuses him of threatening a public prosecutor, sparking nationwide protests.
