Turkey: Thousands rally for CHP amid legal crackdown on leadership

Tens of thousands of people rallied in Ankara to support Turkey’s main opposition party, the CHP, amid a legal crackdown, including accusations against party chairman Özgür Özel. The party faces mounting judicial attacks, especially after a major local election win in 2024, and protests erupted over the perceived political nature of these charges. If Özel is removed, the CHP plans to hold a new congress on September 21 to elect a replacement.
