Sabrina Carpenter might be coming for your phones, y’all.
Earlier this month, the Please Please Please songstress was honored as the cover choice for the latest edition of Rolling Stone. And as part of the accompanying feature interview, she said something interesting: that she’s open to the idea of banning phones from her future shows!

So, the mag asked Sabrina if she hates how her fans are constantly filming her on stage and not actually being present at her concerts. And to that end, RS also queried Carpenter about whether she’d ever ban phones altogether at her shows!
Her answer? “Absolutely”! She said:
“This will honestly piss off my fans, but absolutely. I went to see Silk Sonic in Vegas, and they locked my phone. I’ve never had a better experience at a concert. I genuinely felt like I was back in the seventies — wasn’t alive, genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone’s singing, dancing, looking at each other and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.”
The Manchild singer went on to say that she doesn’t intend to “blame people for wanting to have memories” from her shows. It’s just that she also doesn’t want her zealous zealots to “zoom in on me when I’m 80 years old up there.”
She quipped:
“I’ve grown up in the age of people having iPhones at shows. It unfortunately feels super normal to me. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away. You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It’s fine.”
LOLz!
Here’s the thing, though: even just commenting about the possibility of banning phones at shows ignited a MASSIVE fight online this week! Over on Reddit on Monday, fans went wild with responses on both sides of the debate!
Here are a few of the many comments criticizing Sabrina’s take:
“Half of her fanbase is just taking vids at the concerts for her sexy poses”
“I rewatch a lot of the vids in my phone often to reminisce about my younger 20s because i used to go to alot of festivals.”
“I’m not going anywhere that takes my phone.”
“If I pay money to go somewhere and it’s not harming anyone I should be able to record at least parts of the damn thing for memories sake. I get recording entire concerts, but banning the use of phones sounds crazy to me.”
“So many people say ‘you are never going to watch that again’ but I don’t think it’s true, it’s just that not enough time has passed yet to make the videos interesting again.”
“I watch the s**tty concert videos I took from my favorite concert every few months because I want to relive how happy I was in that moment.”
“When she pays for the tickets, she can decide what people do while at her shows.”
“I record because I forget a lot of the concert.”
And a few more of the many comments showing support:
“It’s incredibly frustrating to see how many people film half the show on their phone, obstructing everyone’s vision. Dancing and filming, like the video is going to be f**king unwatchable, put the bloody phone down and enjoy yourself! I wonder how artists must feel, instead of the audience’s faces half of the crowd is just phones.”
“I love a quick video and I do go back and rewatch them, but I would HAPPILY give those up if it means people were more present around me. I’ve been going to a concert a month for ten years, phones have massively negatively affected the experience.”
“Camera phones have ruined just about every community experience. Concerts, festivals, parades, fireworks, theater, even museums and restaurants. You don’t need to film yourself doing everything. You don’t need a picture of everything you’ve seen. Be present in moment.”
“Been to a few comedy shows where they did this and honestly loved it. Didn’t have constantly be distracted by someone else’s screen and everyone was enjoying themselves without worrying about recording their next TikTok post.”
“Experiencing a concert where every single person around is holding up a cell phone is so weird. Has to be awkward from the stage too. It might be a good thing to do, keep everyone focused on the show instead of what they can capture on their phone”
“Honestly, great. You’re never going to watch that s**tty video you took. Don’t bother, just dance.”
So we’ll leave it with U, Perezcious readers: would you be down for a phone ban at a future Carpenter concert?! Or nah??
