Since April this year, some 172 square miles of New Mexico has been under the control of the US army as part of Donald Trump’s controversial crackdown on illegal migrants crossing into the US from Mexico. Here, troops patrol in armoured vehicles more commonly seen in war zones and have the right to hold and question civilian trespassers. Some welcome the move, while others liken it to being under a military occupation.
