A divided US appeals court on Friday threw out an agreement that would have allowed accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two alleged accomplices to plead guilty in a deal sparing him the death penalty. A military judge ruled in November that the deals were valid and binding, but the government appealed that decision.
