US President Donald Trump said on Sunday night he would raise tariffs on Colombia and stop all payments to the country after US military strikes on boats accused of carrying drugs. Trump also called Colombian President Gustavo Petro an “illegal drug leader”, which Petro and his government strongly rejected. The tensions come as the US is also involved in a conflict with Venezuela in the region. FRANCE 24’s Philip Turle has the analysis.
