US Senate passes bill to end government shutdown, sending it to House

The longest US government shutdown moved closer to ending on Monday after several Democrats joined Republicans in a 60-40 vote for a compromise funding deal, drawing party backlash. The shutdown, now in its 40th day, has left over a million workers unpaid and caused major air travel disruptions.
