The government shutdown stalemate continues into a new week with no clear resolution, as both parties blame each other for the funding lapse. On Monday, two competing Senate measures to fund the government and end the shutdown failed for the fifth time. Senate Republicans are trying to gain Democratic backing for a House-approved bill to fund the government until November 21, while Democratic leaders insist that any funding deal must include an extension of health insurance tax credits.
