The United States announced on Monday that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Syrian group formerly linked to al Qaeda, had its designation as a “foreign terrorist organization” revoked, one week after the US lifted its decades-long sanctions on the country. Current Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa led HTS when it overthrew former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime last December.
