A new plan for providing humanitarian aid to Gaza using a private charity and US security firms could replace the United Nations by seizing control of the delivery of essential goods to the besieged Palestinian enclave by providing aid “directly – and only – to those in need”. The UN has rejected the plan, saying it “weaponises aid”, and threatens to cause mass displacement of Palestinians. News of the plan came as UNICEF and the WFP on Monday warned of the risk of famine in Gaza.
