The first direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow to end the war in Ukraine are set to take place in Istanbul on Thursday but Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky have indicated they will not attend. After more than three years of war, Moscow and Kyiv’s demands appear to remain far apart.
