Kelly Clarkson scrapped the opening show of her Las Vegas residency on Friday night just an hour and a half before it was supposed to start.
And in a message on Instagram posted on Friday evening, the American Idol said she did so to “protect” herself.
The longtime musician, singer, and television host opened up in her reveal that she was going to have to cancel the opening show for her Studio Sessions residency by writing that she was “devastated” for choosing to postpone:
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars.”
According to the rest of the post, the rehearsals specifically have “taken a toll” on Kelly’s voice. So, she has to wait it out for a week to get back on track for future shows:
“The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve. The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”

According to TMZ on Saturday morning, Kelly’s reps have not yet indicated if or how the affected shows will be refunded or rescheduled later on in her residency.
