Strategies to prevent small boat crossings are high on the agenda of French President Emmanuel Macron’s three-day state visit to the UK. More than 20,000 migrants have crossed the Channel from northern France to the UK in small boats so far this year – a record-breaking number over the six-month period. The UK is paying France over €500 million to prevent the small boat crossings, which the UK Home Office says “threaten lives and undermine border security”. FRANCE 24’s Claire Paccalin has been reporting from the north of France on this story and tells us more.
