WMG and Stability AI Partner to Develop ‘Artist-Friendly AI Tools’

Warner Music Group and Stability AI have formed a strategic partnership to advance what they’re calling “responsible AI in music creation.” The companies say the alliance, announced Wednesday (Nov. 19), is designed to help build an ethical music ecosystem that supports artists and songwriters.

The initiative will focus on building professional-grade tools that allow artists, songwriters and producers to experiment and create using ethically trained AI models. Both companies say the goal is to unlock new creative possibilities while ensuring proper licensing and safeguarding creators’ rights. The partnership will involve working directly with artists to understand how they use emerging technologies, shaping tools that enhance creativity without compromising quality or artistic control.

This move follows Stability AI’s recent alliance with Universal Music Group, announced in October, which also centers on integrating AI into music production responsibly. Beyond music, Stability AI has partnered with Electronic Arts to innovate game development and with WPP to enhance marketing through AI.

Stability AI is perhaps best known for its Stable Audio models, launched two years ago, which generate licensed music using text-to-audio technology. These models leverage “latent diffusion,” a technique first introduced in the company’s image-based Stable Diffusion product.

Carletta Higginson, executive vp and chief digital officer at WMG, called the partnership “an important step toward developing responsible, artist-friendly AI tools that expand creative possibilities while safeguarding the rights and integrity of music creators.”

Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju chimed in, adding, “WMG is a leader in the global music and entertainment landscape, and we’re proud to partner with a company that shares our Artist First ethos.”
